Working
in JUP! -
Bad Oldesloe
Jugend
Umwelt Projektwerkstatt ________________________________________________________________
means in English »Youth Environmental Workshop«. This
is an environmental NGO where young people develop their own projects
or ideas. JUP-Bad Oldelsoe is a self-organized youth structure, where
young people can find support for their activities. The members are
the ones who create the structure in JUP!. It is important
to insist on the meaning of the self-organization, which means freedom
but also much responsibility. There is no boss or leader who controls
the work. Self-organization, responsibility, motivation are main keywords
for the smooth and unproblematic running of the organization itself.
The co-operation in the name of the environmental protection is a
current need all over the world. There are different methods to influence
local governments, to reach certain aims. In JUP! topics about the
environmental education have priority. For many people still only
a lip service. You have to start, if something shall happen!
During your EVS______________________________________________________________________________
in the Youth Environmental Project-workshop you can implement your
own ideas or you can join existing projects. Workshops are places
for doing and trying things on your own. But there are people to ask
and to talk to, info, books, »high-tech«, tips and others.
Important parts of the work are: public relations, actions, seminars
and leading youth groups. It still depends on which workshop you are
in. The aim is to change the lifestyle of all persons involved, to
give nature and humans the durable possibility to live next to each
other equally….
...to make Utopias come true!
Here you can get active…_____________________________________________________________________
Youth environmental project workshop (JUP!) uses the same building
as »initiative house
( www.inihaus.de
) , that it founded with other youth groups from Bad Oldesloe. There
young people organize concerts, political lectures, movie evenings,
planning meetings and five times per week the café is open. A
big environmental library, a seminar room, a layout workshop and slide
archive belong to JUP!..............................................................................

Projects...____________________________________________________________________________________
By the way, self organization doesn’t mean
»holidays«, on the opposite many huge and small projects
are running, in which you can take part. Of course you can also bring
in your own ideas or start new projects. Here are some of our projects:
>>
Nuclear power, no thanks!
Not only in Gorleben resistance
against a degrading and dangerous energy source is needed. Nuclear
wastes are transported through nearly every big town, but nobody talks
about it. That’s why project groups of different environmental
workshops regularly make actions against these transports to attract
the public’s attention.

>>
Editing newspapers and publications!
We edit an environmental newspaper
and several publications. The special thing about our publications
is, that every writer is responsible for his own article and there
is no censorship… If you get for example intothe newspaper project,
you can write articles, make interviews with »important«
persons, take part in discussions in regional editorial meetings implement
your own ideas for layout in the newspaper, organize advertisement
or what else you would like to do.
With the homepage www.oekojobs.de
we spread useful information through the internet. Other publications
are "Natur-Erlebnis-Mappe", "Öko-Job-Broschüre"
and "Regenbogen-Kämpfer-Mappe".
>>
Education: Workshops and seminars
Unfortunately, the schools still don’t
support enough environmental education. That’s why the environmental
workshops have different educational offers for young people. With
seminars about different topics (from making apple juice until weaving
with willows) we try to make young people appreciate interesting topics
and try to show
them environmentally friendly techniques and lifestyles. From this
work the »Natur Erlebnis Mappe« developed.

>> Ecomobile
The ecomobile is an
old circus wagon, which was ecologically rebuilt by a group of young
people and it is pulled by a tractor. The ecomobile can be used for
many different projects. On Demos and caravans, as a mobile information
point or as a mobile concert wagon. For example the ecomobile took
part in a caravan from the west to the east of Schleswig-Holstein
against the highway A20.
There is much repairing-
work left to build at the ecomobile and at the tractor. You have the
possibility of organizing your own tours or of running seminars with
it. As an ecomobile volunteer you don’t need to work only at
the ecomobile. You also can take part in many other JUP! projects
as well.
You live together with the
other volunteers from different countries in a flat that is situated
in Inihaus.
